About Food in Amsterdam
If you love beer or cheese, which is pretty much everyone, you are going to enjoy eating out in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam has an amazing variety of places to eat, from fast snacks to fancy restaurants, whether you are looking for typical Dutch food, Italian, Spanish, Indonesian, Chinese - you are guaranteed to find something.
What to Eat?
For adventurous foodies, Amsterdam offers such goodies as raw herring (typically available from May to July). The best place to taste it is at the any street market, such as Albert Cuypmarkt. Its a cheap snack but you should watch a local eat it and then give it ago - it's an experience!. At the markets you can also try Dutch kibbeling (deep-fried fish chunks) and for a sweet bite stroopwafels (syrup waffle). And of course Dutch cheese, the older the better!
There are no rules or guideline for tipping in Amsterdam. Actually, its quite normal not to leave a tip at a cafe or restaurant. However, if you enjoyed the meal and you would like to give a tip, 10% of the bill is fine.
