Greenwich Village is perhaps NYC's most iconic neighborhood. Known for decades as a haven for bohemians, writers and outcasts, it's also a wonderful collection of architecture, restaurants, shops and history. It started as a retreat for the city's affluent citizens, then became their home, they became a working class home to immigrants, and also attracted writers, artists and misfits from around the country. In more recent years it's become a popular area in pop culture, with used in Friends, Sex and the City, the Cosby Show and others.

The only way to explore Greenwich Village is on foot. We'll walk the narrow streets and explore its alleys, former carriage-houses, elegant townhouses, pristine courtyards, and major landmarks.

Sites include Washington Square, Minetta Lane, Jefferson Market Courthouse, Cafe Wha!, the Stonewall Inn, and NYU. Personalities talked about include Edger Allen Poe, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Margaret Sanger, Dylan Thomas, and Allen Ginsberg. We'll see where Bob Dylan had his first gig, where Dylan Thomas drank himself to death, where Bobby Fischer once played chess, and where the first cappuccino was served in NYC.

The tour will take 2 hours and can be tailored to your interests. Bring a good pair of shoes, a camera and a hat.

My tours cover a variety of topics, from the city's history, arts, architecture, pop culture, and cuisine.
