What says Memphis better than barbecue and ... bicycles? BBQ is certainly a long held institution in the Bluff City, and while bike riding has quite a ways to go until it reaches a similar level of local embracement, Memphis is gaining national attention for its efforts to become more bicycle-friendly. So why not search for the city's best time-tested barbecue via its new favorite way to get around?

During this three-hour expedition into mouth-watering, slow-cooked perfection we'll visit at least three of Memphis' most legendary barbecue joints by bicycle. We'll ride at a leisurely speed along leafy neighborhood streets and some of the city's newest bike lanes for about 10 miles in total. Along the way and in between bites I'll share with you the history of Memphis 'cue and the stories of our host restaurants. You'll enjoy an open-air ride through Memphis, sample its world famous cuisine, learn a little about its personality, and -- importantly -- burn calories along the way.

PLEASE NOTE: The tour price does NOT include bicycles, but I'm happy to arrange rental bikes for you and your group if necessary. This is an additional cost of $29 per person, which you'll pay directly to a local bike shop on the day of the tour. Minimum 7 day advance notice required in order to guarantee the bike rentals.

Included in your payment for this experience:
• A predetermined sampling of specialties at 3 barbecue restaurants (a reasonable appetite will be satisfied by tour's end)
• An informative, barbecue-loving native Memphian as a guide

NOT Included:
• A Bike (see the paragraph above)
• Drinks (except water)
• A stop at the The Rendezvous (If a visitor to Memphis dines at any BBQ restaurant in town, it's probably this one -- and for a deservedly good reason. Therefore, I prefer to take my guests to the places frequented more by locals.)

Despite living abroad in Europe for several years, my passion towards my hometown never waned. Motivated to have a role in improving the city I cared for, I eventually decided to return to Memphis in order to practice my profession of urban planning at home. As a dedicated Memphian, I enjoy sharing my home with visitors or even out-of-touch locals, whether by walking my guests through the city's past, describing Memphis' continuing revitalization as only a professional urban planner can tell it, or simply hanging out in my favorite barbecue joints. I aim for my guests to leave with an impression of Memphis as a fascinating city full of soul and authenticity -- a city that gets under your fingernails and sticks with you ... kind of like barbecue sauce.
