Take a break from the big city and discover Bangkok's best kept secret!
Situated on a leafy island adjacent to Bangkok's financial district is Bang Krachao, the "Green Lung of Bangkok," a wondrous local ecological habitat that few locals, and even fewer foreigners know about.
Bang Krachao is one of my favorite areas in Bangkok and for good reason.
Here you will find no rushing tuk-tuks. No buses or subway trains. On this island you will find a wonderfully preserved Thai provincial culture that has survived and thrived for several decades next to the bustling metropolis on the other river bank. This area is also of great historical importance, as a place where the Mon people migrated from Burma and preserved their distinct culture and identity.
We will start our trip with a visit to the pier, before crossing the ferry to the island. From there, it is about 50 baht to rent bicycles for the day.
We will explore some of the most beautiful scenic and leafy areas, perfect for relaxing or birdwatching. We will also interact with friendly locals and experience the true Thai hospitality!
Born and raised in San Diego, currently loving southeast Asia where I mostly divide my time between Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur with frequent visits to sites all around the region. I'm a freelance writer, entrepreneur, designer, and advertising specialist with my own blog, digital magazine, and podcast focused on adventure and location-independent entrepreneurship, and digital nomadism called "OpenWorld." I have a variety of hobbies - love surfing, dancing, hiking, golfing, swimming, running, cycling, etc. I enjoy good conversations, dance, cooking, good music, tango, capoeira, Muay Thai, laughing, and positive vibes! I've spent quite a bit of time adventuring in South America and Asia and am happy to provide insights or connections around the region. Full profile
