Aegina / Aphaia’s Island
One day trip to Aegina, the first capital of Ancient Greece. Aegina is the island of pistachio nuts and the place where you can see the ancient temple of Athena Aphaia. The tour will kick off from the paved stone alleys of Chora and we will ascend Pahia Rahi through pistachio fields to arrive at Tzikides and take great photos of the Saronic Gulf and islands of Agistri, Moni and Methana.
Then, we will set off our descent through a pine forest leading to the imposing temple of Athena Aphaia to take a tour. Pedaling towards the picturesque villages where pottery craft boomed, we will make our next stop at Palaiohora where there were 365 churches, one for each day of the year, some of which still exist today.
We will finish off the tour by cycling the coastal trail from Souvala to Aegina and weather permitting we can relax and enjoy a swim and an ouzo with ‘meze’.
