Now you can make the most of Thessaloniki’s unique scenery and surroundings by going on a hiking tour! Hiking even for newbies and “unfit”, a pleasant walk for families and a peaceful rest in the refuge.

Just a short distance from Thessaloniki’s centre, this low-key mountain offers an excellent escape from the city. Largely unknown and virtually untouched by mass tourism, Mount Hortiatis, is an ideal destination to meet the magnificent Greek nature and get some marvelous landscape views.

We can also stop off at the refuge to relax and enjoy a morning coffee, a meal or just the wonderful view. It is located in the heart of the mountain at an altitude of 1000m on Mt. Hortiatis.

Option 1: We can take the classic mountain trail 3.5km that connects the village of Hortiatis with the refuge (approx. 1.30hrs). Although the path starts sharply, after a few meters it continues smoothly and without difficulties.

Option 2: We can walk the forest road to the refuge enjoying the beautiful chestnut forest (approx. 40 min).

What to bring: Hiking shoes or sneakers, backpack with bottled water, comfortable clothes, a long sleeved t- shirt is recommended, sun block, sunglasses and a hat.

Throughout the year upon request/ Refuge operates on weekends.
