Figueres cemetery began in 1817, when the wall surrounding it was built to prevent animals which could unearth human remains buried. Inside are various tombs included in the Inventory of Architectural Heritage of Catalonia, as August Font, Venanci Vallmitjana or Josep Llimona. One of the features of this cemetery is the presence of Masonic graves. Some of their symbology were carved in stone, particularly one of them representing the compass and square.
