The most engaging and genuine 2 hours of walking which uncovers the the story of North Beach through its food, architecture and local culture.
We begin in the narrow streets of Jackson Square to learn about the founding of the city and the Gold Rush through its unique buildings. Then, we go on to the famed Barbary Coast where a hidden underground tunnel awaits.
Next, we walk Columbus Avenue and explore its Beats landmarks, including watering holes where we can stop for a beer and read some of the influential poetry they created. Food stops along the way include: the oldest deli West of the Rockies and an Italian bakery for a pastry.
We then walk through alleyways where Italian families used to make wine before ending in the "Living Room of North Beach", Washington Square Park, and hearing stories of how the Italian community was able to band together and create Little Italy.
