Our English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel lobby in Shanghai city centre around 9:00 am. The exact time will be provided by your guide a day before the tour starts, normally after 6:00 pm via a phone call to your hotel.
First we will visit the Confucius Temple, which was historically significant in promoting the doctrine of both Confucius and Mencius, as well as their disciples. After that we’ll take you for a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and you can take a walk through some gardens nearby to see traditional Chinese gardening and architecture.
From there, we’ll take you to the Bund, where you’ll catch spectacular views of the dazzling cityscape. The Bund is lined with impressive neo-classical buildings dating back to Shanghai’s grandest days. Many banks and trading companies from the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Italy, Russia, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and Belgium built impressive offices here in the early 20th century when Shanghai was the financial capital of Asia. The boulevard was also home to the Masonic Club, the Shanghai Club, and the consulates of Russia and the United Kingdom.
After the Bund, we’ll go to the Silk Museum. Silk has a long history in China, which you will also have the opportunity to learn about. Then we will go for lunch, where you’ll be able to try authentic Chinese food. After lunch you’ll visit the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Store where you can get some souvenirs for friends and family.
Lastly we will head to Zhujiajiao Water Town, a famous Water Town with over 5,000 years of history (tools and relics from 5,000 years ago have been found in the area). Here you can see the original architecture, and take a little ride along the river to soak up the relaxing atmosphere. Don’t forget to take plenty of photos!
