Overview
Checking out Suzhou is really the best way to get a feel for what Shanghai used to be like. You'll see how daily life has remained unchanged over the centuries in these unique old towns, and get a grasp of what Shanghai used to look like before it turned into one of the largest cities in the world.

What You Can Expect:
Get on a bus from Shanghai to Suzhou, where you’ll visit the Lingering Garden first. The Lingering Garden is recognized with other classical Suzhou gardens as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and makes for a great escape from the city. The garden also stores two UNESCO Intangible World Heritage Arts, both pingtan and guqin, which you will be able to learn more about during your visit.

After the Lingering Garden, you’ll go to Hanshan Temple, a Buddhist temple and monastery located at Maple Bridge, about 5 kilometers to the west of the old city of Suzhou. The temple is believed to have been founded during the Tianjin era, under the reign of Emperor Wu of Liang, in the Southern and Northern Dynasties period.

Following your visit here, we’ll venture to a Silk Worm Factory, so you can learn about the life cycle of silk worms and how they are turned into clothing. The art of making silk is very important to China, and learning more about this will deepen your understanding of the country.

Your day will end with a boat ride on the canal, with traditional folk music lingering in the background.
