Immerse yourself in the craft of textile design and weaving, within the relaxed, authentic Umbrian town of Citta di Castello.

Founded in 1908 to conserve the Umbrian hand weaving ‘tessitura a mano’ tradition, Tela Umbra is a weaving studio, a textile museum and a shop. Fabrics produced here are made exclusively by hand from linen and wool, utilising original late medieval and renaissance designs.

Over five half-day workshops weave your own project in wool and linen on Tela Umbra’s traditional floor handlooms, guided by Italian artisans who have been part of the Tela Umbra weaving community since the early 1990s. It is a rare experience and one of only a few of its kind in Europe.

Workshop – 5 days (9am - 1pm each day) hand weaving on traditional floor looms. Suitable for craft and fibre lovers, beginner and intermediate weavers, and textile designers. Italian snacks, caffe and cornetti will be provided each day.

Small groups - maximium 5 people only.

Teachers - Italian master weavers from Tela Umbra, assisted by an English speaking interpreter.

Dates available - May and June 2017

Extras include a tour of the Tela Umbra textile museum and an Italian cultural/language tips session over caffe & cornetti.
