The tour will commence in the Castello sestiere (area).
You will find yourself in a more intimate Venice, made of a silence broken only by the lapping of gondola oars and echoes of your own footsteps in one of the few areas of Venice where the number of residents exceeds that of tourists. Normal shops with normal prices for normal people, laundry hanging out to dry in the sun on wires strung across the streets and canals, some even hanging fishing nets outside their homes in the same manner done centuries before.
We will “dock” at the Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo where we will visit the largest and most important School (Scuola) of Venice, the Scuola Grande di San Marco and the church (known as the Doge’s Mausoleum). Our following stop will be one of the most curious sites of the city: the place where the Doges were mummified.
In a lesser known, but no less beautiful, area of Venice we will pass through the Sotoportego dei Bombardieri to arrive at the Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni (stunning pictorial cycle of Vittore Carpaccio).
Our tour continues with a visit of the church of San Francesco della Vigna, built according to Jacopo Sansovino’s designs, having a classic Andrea Palladio façade. It boasts a cloister of indescribable beauty, an ideal place to retreat from the street bustle under the shade of cypress trees. (Price doesn't include Food, Drinks and admission ticket for the museums).
