Downtown Los Angeles is rich in important examples of architecture spanning three centuries. We will begin our walking tour at Pershing Square working our way to the top of the iconic City Hall (Mon - Fri only) for views over the entire city, the San Gabriel Mountains and points of interest downtown. You will have a contextual view of a tour highlight which includes interiors - the Walt Disney Concert Hall by Frank Gehry.
This is a tour for architects and lovers of architecture. Your tour guide is a registered architect and member of the AIA and RIBA. We will see work by many well-known architects including Frank Gehry, Thom Mayne, Diller Scofidio Renfro, Irata Isozaki, Bertrand Goodhue, Henry Cobb, Rick Keating and Ricardo Legoretta plus landscape architects Lawrence Halprin and Laurie Olin.
I have lived in Southern California for nearly 25 years (London, Tehran and Manila before that) and been a practicing architect here the entire time. I have learned a lot and love to show visitors, as well as long term residents, some of the interesting and unique aspects of architecture in LA. Want to see where Frank Lloyd Wright had his office in downtown? Did you know that the designer of the iconic City Hall was a Brit? Or more recently, that Frank Gehry was Canadian? Ever seen a Neutra high-rise? The only one is downtown. Do you like photography as much as I do? I can help you with the best views and compositions to ensure the record of your tour matches the quality of the architecture. Full profile ⋅ Leave a Review
