Mexican cuisine is known for its varied flavors, vibrant colors & variety of spices & ingredients. The cuisine is a blend of indigenous (Mayan/ Aztec) & European elements (mainly Spanish) and among the busy streets of Playa (away from the tourist path of 5th Avenue) you will be sure to find it all! On our food tour you will get an opportunity to taste a variety dishes, ranging from traditional street fare to the regional cuisine of the Yucatán. Warm tortillas, sizzling meats, spicy salsas & more await you!

All food, drinks, and transportation included!

YUCATECAN - You will get an opportunity to try cochinita pibil, baby-suckling pig that is slow roasted in the earth, wrapped in a banana leaf, marinated with citrus and annatto. This is my favorite Mexican dish & a must try when visiting the Yucatán Peninsula.

TACO DE BARBACOA – Get ready to try the “original BBQ”.

POZOLE - This hearty stew is a must try while visiting Mexico. There are many styles and types, but we are sure we have found the best in Playa del Carmen for you!

El Mercado - You will get to visit an open-air market in Playa del Carmen & check out some interesting and unfamiliar ingredients.

CARNITAS - You will get to visit one of the local “hot spots” for this dish in Playa.

ICE CREAM! – Both more vanilla and exotic flavors.

I was not always an island dweller, nor always a chef (professionally speaking). I was brought up in the United States, primarily in New Jersey, and earned my B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College. Following college, I went straight into a corporate environment and worked in management. During this time, I spent many evenings after work dabbling in cookbooks, watching Top Chef and spending much of my income dining out. I realized that food was not just three square meals a day; it was a way of life and the thought “What am I going to eat next?” was always on my mind. I decided to follow this calling and enrolled in culinary school at the French Culinary Institute in New York City. A year or so later I am now on Cozumel Island, pursuing a passion for food and life. Bon appétit ! ¡Buen apetito! Full profile

Emily does a great tour of the street food around Playa del Carmen. She's knowledgeable, friendly, and a professional chef. She brought us to some great spots, explained the dishes, went to some market, and talked the Yucatan food ways. Definitely needed for touring QROO.
