Aug 20-26: 7 Day Camping Safari + Volcano Hike: Tarangire/Lake Manyara/ Serengeti/Olduvai Gorge/Ngorongoro Crater/Lengai Volcano Midnight Hike/Lake Natron descent day:
Day 1: Wake for breakfast aiming to leave your lodge by around 7:00 a.m. Journey to Tarangire National Park for a full day’s game drive of the park. Arrive approximately 9:30 a.m. and enter the park for the first half of your game drive. Stop for an “on the bonnet” picnic lunch before continuing with your game drive. Make your way to Mto wa Mbu close to Lake Manyara t spend your first night under the stars.
Day 2: Rise, breakfast and leave campsite by 8:30 a.m. heading for Lake Manyara National Park for a full days game drive. At around 1 p.m. relax with a picnic lunch before continuing with your game drive. At around 5 p.m. you will leave the park and head for your campsite in Mto wa Mbu.
Day 3: Around 7 a.m. you will start your journey to Serengeti National Park making your way through Ngorongoro Conservation Area and stopping for spectacular views of the crater before continuing your journey. Make a brief stop at Olduvai Gorge to learn about this fascinating archaeological site. At the Serengeti gate stop for a quiet picnic lunch. Begin your afternoon game drive of the park before retiring to your campsite for your evening meal and campfire.
Day 4: Wake for breakfast and begin your full-day game drive of Serengeti National Park. Stop for an “on the bonnet” picnic lunch before continuing with your game drive. Retire to your campsite for dinner and evening campfire.
Day 5: Wake for breakfast and begin your on-route game drive returning towards Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Stop for a picnic lunch along the way and continue your journey to the crater. Arrive at Simba campsite just before dusk and enjoy your evening settling in and watching some of its’wild permanent residents!
Day 6: Wake early aiming to be on the crater floor before 7 a.m. to stand the best chance of witnessing some exciting animal activity. Spend the next few hours on a full game drive of Ngorongoro crater. Return to the campsite for a hot lunch at around 1 p.m. At around 2:00 p.m. exit the conservation area for the return journey back to Arusha.
Day 7: Early in the morning (midnight!) you get up and prepare for the climb to Ol Doinyo Lengai. While porters carry the equipment and our water for the light camp, we ascend along an ever steepening ridge until you reach the inactive south crater, after 3-7 hrs climbing (depending on your pace).
Day 8: Comfortable break near Lake Natron:
half day near fascinating Lake Natron. We visit the Lake with its thousands of flamingos and take a swim in a paradisiacal waterfall in a narrow gorge with wonderful stone formations…(if you have the energy). Here you’ll find the desert rose as well.
