Guardians of the Valley-Windmill Tour

with Jack A.

Style: Educational

Take a fun, and educational three hour tour of a large working wind park. This is the only private tour of a working wind farm available in the world. The Palm Springs area is unique, as the wind blows hard enough to power the windmills 300 days a year. The San Jacinto mountains are the 3rd highest mountain range in California and provide a wind tunnel through the San Gorgonio Pass along Interstate 10. The wind runs east to west along the pacific plate. The winds usually blow west to east in the mornings and east to west in the afternoon so half of the windmills face east and half west to take advantage of this.
Increasingly popular as alternative sources of energy, wind turbine generators are a type of windmill that produces electricity by harnessing the wind. Wind turbine generators are much less harmful to the environment than burning fossil fuels. So come on down to Palm Springs, and let's go "GREEN".

This is a special tour in the Palm Springs area and is a favorite for international travelers and locals alike. It's because these wind turbines are such a integrated part of the Palm Springs area, and they have such a fascinating history, this is one tour you don't want to miss.
