with Marga L.

Marga L.

The history of the Borgias lineage, who gave to the history no less than two popes, dozens of cardinals and one of the most important saints of the Catholic Reformation, has always been accompanied by a lot of mysteries about its rise to power and the control over it. And that's why it has always been so intriguing to approach them.

The roots of this family, which undoubtedly had a significant role in the evolution of the Italian Renaissance, must be sought in the town of Xativa. It's in this town where this family settled for a time, being, for example, the birthplace of Rodrigo Borgia, the future Pope Alexander VI.

Do you want to discover the Borgias lineage around the city? Would you like to walk and tour the same streets that saw the future Pope Alexander VI grow? We will start our route from the square where the birthplace of Rodrigo Borgia (Alexander VI) is located and also we will visit the surroundings where he played as a child. After that, we will walk around the old town of Xativa, discovering old noble houses and palaces, main scenarios where were agreed the power relations of the ruling families, among which were the Borgias. At the end of the route, you will discover between the old walls of the Basilica why this family was so important for art in Valencia in general and in Xativa in particular.
