Learn How Animals Think on a Zoo Tour

Discover each animal's eating and mating strategy on our walk through the zoo. You'll see eerily familiar behaviors, from the joy of reaching a goal to the frustrations of social rivalry. All mammals run on the same basic brain chemicals, and when you know how they work in animals, humans make sense. I can help with transportation arrangements, and if the Oakland Zoo is more convenient for you we can meet there. Other zoos by arrangement.

My books show how the mammal brain runs on dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, endorphin and cortisol. It's fun to watch animals while learning about your happy chemicals because the behaviors they trigger make sense in the state of nature. We'll see how attachment, anxiety, competition, and aggression emerged from natural selection. It's not easy being a mammal, but we'll have a great day at the zoo.

I am the author of three books on the mammalian brain, a retired college professor, and a Docent at the Oakland Zoo. I love learning about the brains we've inherited from earlier mammals, and I love teaching others about it. I've traveled a lot and like to visit the homes of famous historical figures.
