Attica's highest peak- Mount Parnitha.
Located a mere 40 km from Athens city center, Mount Parnitha National Park, ranks among the most beautiful in Europe making it a designated Natura 2000 protected site.
Extending over an area of approximately 300 sq. Km, the Greek fir and Aleppo pine covered mountain range is interlaced with established hiking/biking trails, boasts numerous natural springs and a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Over a thousand plant species have been recorded and its famous red deer have had a presence here since ancient times.
Our itinerary begins with a 45 minute drive from Athens city center to ...(Aghia Triada) located at 600 meters altitude, in the foothills of the mountain. From here our route will be made in three stages, following an established trail (Houni).
Stage 1. Ascending from 600 to 1150 meters our 5.5 Km hike, taking approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, will bring us to the mountain refuge "Bafi". Here we will enjoy a relaxing lunch (included in the price) before continuing our trek.
Stage 2. This section of our route, from Bafi to Mount Parnes Hotel/Casino is a less demanding 3.8 Km walk, with magnificent views allowing for excellent photo opportunities. Estimated time 50 minutes.
Stage 3. The final stage of our route takes us from Mount Parness Hotel/Casino at 1065 meters to our starting point (Aghia Triada). There are two alternatives available for the descent. Either the "Skalakia", a challenging 2.5 Km of rough and rugged pathway, which path needs almost 1:30 hour or the cable car which offers a more comfortable and faster route (descent).
The choice is yours !
From here we will return to the city center by car (45 minutes).
