About Food in Lisbon
Portuguese people are intensely proud of their food, the best of which uses fresh local ingredients and is relatively simple but delicious. Seafood, cod and pork products are especially good as well as the vast array of convent cakes such as the famous Pasteis de Belém custard tarts.
You’ll find something for every palate and budget in Lisbon, from fast food to gourmet treats. Look out for lunchtime meal deals (menu do día) where you can often get a three-course meal with a drink for less than 10 euros. Most Lisboetas don’t eat out at night until after 9 pm but you’ll find restaurants in tourist areas open earlier if you can’t adjust to local eating habits.
