About New & Noteworthy in Lisbon
Lisbon’s former royal square, Terreiro do Paço (a.k.a. Praça do Comércio), has had a complete makeover in the past couple of years. Statues and façades have been spruced up and there’s now an elevator taking you to the top of the arched entrance on Rua Augusta for views over the Baixa and the River Tagus. A fresh crop of restaurants, cafés, museums and clubs are attracting tourists and locals to a space that’s once again worthy of its regal heritage.
From here, you can walk along the recently opened riverside path to Ribeira das Naus river beach which connects the city centre with the transport hub of Cais do Sodré.
