About London
They say the success of an artist comes down to their ability to reinvent themselves. Despite London having a history that spans approximately 2000 years, it's the city's ability to balance its historic significance and its ever evolving character that makes it one of the most, if not the most, visited city year after year.
London sets the scene for some of the world's most iconic postcard pinups, including the Queen, Tower Bridge, red telephone boxes, that rather ornate clock tower known as Big Ben, and Western Europe's tallest building, The Shard. Beyond the surface and all the things you can instantly recognise, however, there is also a world that locals know, live and breath--but few visitors get to truly experience. To quote English writer Samuel Johnson: "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." To add to this famous quote, it would even be fair to say there is in London what three lifetimes can afford, as is such the fast pace and eclectic evolution of the city.
Whether you are here for a flying visit or you're staying longer term, investing in a travel card or electronic Oyster card is a must do. Even though London is a very walkable city it would be crazy to dismiss one of the world's most efficient public transport networks. Another must do is to be prepared for sudden changes in the weather. Putting sunscreen on, carrying an umbrella, wearing a scarf and donning sunglasses all at the same time is not as ludicrous as it sounds.
