Royce Love is Vayable's favorite gay best friend (so far as of September 2011). His warm, fabulous, and sassy personality makes him the gay BFF you wish you always had! Proper thrifting requires a sense of humor, a good eye, and a lot of creativity! As a professional stylist, he's got it all. You and your friends will look like a thousand bucks while only spending a sliver of that!
John is one of those people that embodies New York City so well! He's an investment banker by day and a concert pianist in a past life. He has this amazing artcase piano that he salvaged with his friends from a Brooklyn Heights junkyard. It's now gorgeously painted with a good dose of personality and great acoustics. He's extremely talented, and his apartment is gorgeous and comfy as well. If you're lucky, he'll even take you up to the roof of his too-many-floors-to-count building, where you can see a stunning view of Manhattan!
Whether you're just out with your girls on a Saturday afternoon, looking for bridesmaids dresses, or planning a bachelorette party, Royce Love is your guy! He's the fabulous gay BFF everyone wishes they had but doesn't necessarily know how to find. He's like Stanford from Sex and the City, Jack from Will and Grace, etc. BUT ten times better. He's really good at tailoring the shopping experience to your style and budget and has a glittering personality to make it an experience you'll be talking about at all future cocktail parties. Do SOHO the right way with Royce Love.
If you want to see a bunch of New York neighborhoods in a day, this is the tour for you. Andrew has a wealth of knowledge about the history of New York City, especially about the movement of people through the city that has made Manhattan what it is today. He's a PhD student at CUNY and a New York native (grew up in the Bronx and now lives in Queens). He does a great job tailoring the tour to your interests, so he'll definitely be able to give you the perspectives, information, and history that are most interesting to you. Your New York.
Sam's tour is a photography class in the middle of New York City! You will go to various landmark buildings and take pictures of them from very interesting perspectives and vantage points. If you're a total beginner in photography, he'll teach you the basics. But if you're more advanced he'll show you some nifty tricks! We recommend that you bring a group of friends that have about the same skill level as you so no one is left behind or is bored! He's a banker by day and knows plenty of NY facts and great places to eat and play. Happy shooting!
What can we say, it's tough to imagine the combo of bicycles + wine tasting + Sonoma vineyards going wrong, but we also didn't imagine it going this RIGHT. Frieda is very knowledgeable about the vineyards and local wineries and was extremely accommodating to all our interests and needs. She is a nurse by night and a guide by day --- doesn't get much more awesome than that. We recommend packing snacks and water, but if you forget (as we did), there's an incredible cheese plate to be eaten at one of the wineries. :-)
Tim has had some crazy backpacking trips on California’s Lost Coast. Some have been sunny while some have been week long treks of torrential downpours. He knows all the best spots to pitch a tent rain or shine. Learn from his prior mistakes of not using raccoon boxes properly. Best of all, enjoy his guidance along California’s truly “Lost Coast.”
Jack isn’t just a local of Santa Cruz, he’s surfed the craziest breaks all over the world from California to Florida, Mexico, Argentina, Belgium, France, Costa Rica, Chile and Indonesia. However, his stomping grounds are undoubtedly the waves of SC. He’ll teach you how not to look like a “bule” (BOO-LAY) or a “haole” (HOWL – E) as well as how to catch Santa Cruz’s Pacific swells.
Jareau is the man. He’s one whose knowledge extends from the tech industry to all the sweetest spots in the city. See all the best views you can possibly come upon in San Francisco without buying a ritzy penthouse in Pac Heights or Soma. To top it off enjoy some amazing Mission Pie to replenish your energy after a couple very mild hikes.
The Bay Lady is perhaps the best possible way to cruise the San Francisco Bay. Doing this at sunset only makes it exponentially better. Seeing the sun set behind the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge all while sailing is just too much to try and describe online. It’s something that must be seen by everyone who has spent a day in San Francisco.
Matthew has spent almost a decade skating the hills of Los Gatos and his local knowledge of all the best longboarding runs certainly comes off as a result of this. Find yourself cruising down pleasant grades for upwards of 5 minutes at a time in some places. Shred some pavement yo!
Matthew has spent years long boarding to and from all his classes on UC Berkeley’s campus. As a result, his knowledge of all the smooth patches of tarmac, steep downgrades, and pleasant cruises is extensive. Spending hours with him “surfing the pavement” breeze past much too fast – especially with a couple beers.
Matthew spent four years living in Berkeley as a student at Cal, and getting to know the town intimately--and it shows! After spending years finding perfect hangout, date and party spots, let him show you his all time favorite up in the Berkeley hills.
Michael has been traveling California’s state parks from a very young age – and his knowledge of all the local spots certainly shows through when you meet him. If it’s in California, he’ll know where to pitch a tent, setup a campfire and find a great hike.
You may have read about it in Jack Kerouac’s ‘On the Road” or during your extensive Beat Generation research – but now it’s time to experience the REAL thing! Tom’s knowledge of all the Beat spots is extensive as is his knowledge of all the best food joints in the area. A great tour for all!
North Beach or Little Italy – for some this area is the heart of the city. A mix of all ages, and cultures, North Beach is a fun area that can tend to be a bit confusing with all its hills and slanted streets. Don’t try to do it on your own, instead, let Tom show you around for a true local experience!
Don’t know Chinese? Don’t know San Francisco? Intimidated by Chinatown’s mix of alleys, strange shops and confusing characters? Well none of this will be a problem on your tour with Tom. He knows all the local spots and loves to show travelers as well as all the best Dim Sum and fortune cookie spots. Let the local expert show you around!
Pep’s tour of the Muir woods and Tiburon is truly magnificent. These areas just north of San Francisco are short hops away from the center of city, yet the tranquility of both is amazing. Let Pep show you around the mighty Muir Woods and beautiful Tiburon on this fantastic trip across the Golden Gate!
Milton is extremely knowledgeable about the history, economics, and culture of homelessness in San Francisco. He will tour you around his own stomping grounds in the Tenderloin with insight and care, and give you a truly insider understanding of the neighborhood that rests in the heart of San Francisco. This experience is not for the faint of heart and we suggest bringing a friend or two along if you are unfamiliar with this part of San Francisco.
If you're interested in what makes a place tick, you'll want to check out this experience. It's for anyone who loves quirky sub cultures and a thoughtful take on 'cool'.
