We connected with Ari through Vayable to help us assemble a "local perspective" tour for the very last day of our South America trip. Not an easy undertaking, after two weeks of travelling and having seen lots of sites and taken lots of pictures. However, Ari admirably met the challenge and took us on a great trip through the Recoleta and nearby neighborhoods. He was very conscientious of our schedule and safety (especially travelling with our young daughter), and helped us discover some truly unique aspects of Buenos Aires we would not have found on our own. When we entered Recoleta cemetery, his research helped us see some of the lesser known sites that revealed some great stories about Argentina's history. Part historian, part travel companion, Ari is 100% a genuinely helpful, thorough guide who was the perfect end to our South America journey. We look forward to our next trip to Argentina and can't wait to see what tours he's developed next.
My family (wife, daughter (8 y/o) and me) took this tour with Elisa in combination with her Caballito tour. However, these are definitely different tours, so don't think you're getting "more of the same" if you combine both in one day. As advertised, this tour focuses heavily on some of the more interesting architectural aspects of one of Buenos Aires' most prominent avenues, and unlike the Caballito tour, which really takes you into a unique "non-touristy" part of the city, this tour really does reveal a lot of "hidden treasures" which are out of the plain sight one might see taking the typical tourist bus or standard downtown walking tour. Strange doors are opened, odd hallways are approached, and your temptation to "look around the corner" is met with Elisa at the helm. It would be a challenge to meet another guide as well prepared as Elisa, and her knowledge comes through both in conversation and in the level of detail she spends in making sure your experience really is unique. In fact, when she learned our young daughter (8 years old) was coming along with us on the tour, Elisa went out of her way to find yet another hidden treasure in the form of a doll exhibit at a local museum -- she even went to see the exhibit before taking us! Buenos Aires is a city with wonderful architecture, and this tour is a great way to help bring an even greater level of detail and understanding. Highly recommended!
My wife, daughter (8 years old), and I were lucky enough to spend an entire day with Elisa during the Christmas holiday taking both tours she offers. We were not disappointed -- all the insights of the previous reviews regarding the unique things you see are all accurate, but the comments really haven't truly captured the level of effort and preparation Elisa puts into her tours. She really does care about showing you only the most relevant, interesting things, and she was careful to work with us prior to our trip to make sure we let her know our expectations for the day and our schedule. The Caballito trip is a really special trip, something that you really would never be able to do in a limited time frame without somebody with the level of expertise that Elisa possesses. She is an engaging, energetic and knowledgeable guide with a real passion for the tour she's assembled. We've taken many tours, and this is really one that will always be remembered. This is the tour you need to take in Buenos Aires if you have time for just one unique experience -- one of a kind!!!
We partially combined this tour with Luis' other tour (please see our review for the Rio Like a Local Tour) -- together they made for a really great day. Luis is thoughful and made every effort to ensure our tour was as smoothly as possible, and was a great resource for other activities for us to consider on the other days we were in Rio. Well done!
My wife, young daughter (8 years old), and I had the opportunity to meet Luis and take this tour during the Christmas holiday -- we were not disappointed! Luis was very responsive in working with us to come up with a plan that combined the most unique aspects of his itinerary with the challenging logistics of travelling with a young child. After surviving the hoards of tourists at Sugarloaf and Corcovado the day before, it was amazing to take a hike, with an even more amazing view, without another tourist in site! In addition, our walk through Vidigal showed us some of the interesting dynamics of this changing favela while opening our eyes to a colorful, different part of Rio that we would never have explored without this tour. This is a great tour for active, open-minded travellers (which is why you use Vayable in the first place!) -- the hike is challenging but the pace is comfortable, and Luis did an excellent job of ensuring everything went smoothly. He was responsive to our email questions, kept us on track, and was an expert at finding ice cream at just the right time to keep our daughter's battery charged! We had a great time, and we look forward to taking other tours with him on our next trip to Rio. A big, positive recommendation!
I've been messaging with Matt long time before the tour. He is such a great man, with him we have created an interesting historic tour throug 2 neighbourhoods in the city. After I met them, they were smiling and enjoying the day so much that they've transmitted good vibes to me too! It was a pleasure to show them this side Buenos Aires. Cindy is also very kind, being interested in what I do and giving advises for new opportunities! I'll take them for sure!... And I won't forget Harper, even in these past/historic city's spots she was always up to chat about her friends, playing to find the statue we were looking for and how much she knows about Ice-cream, she is a true expert! (of tasting them!) It was great to meet you guys... I hope you had an awesome time here in Argentina! My best Wishes for 2013!
