The tour was fantastic! Our guide Helen was not only an artist herself, but she has taught art history for many years. She had an excellent grasp of the paintings and the artists, and she had great information about the painting's background and the Medici family. It was a delightful tour-highly recommended!
Cancelled at the last minute because of a sick child. Sorry we missed it! Maybe next time!
There was some confusion with the meeting place. Our tour guide was given one location and we were given a different meeting location. As a result we lost an hour of our tour time. The guide was excellent and did the best she could to try to compress what was supposed to have been a 3-hour tour into only 2 hours. Overall, the tour was very informative and the chocolate was great!
We took this tour with two friends and docent Nurcin Ileri, a PhD candidate in Ottoman History--a highly qualified guide. The tour took us across the Bosphorus on the ferry from Sultanhamet to Uskudar. Nurcin was well prepared, personable, and responsive to our questions. We visited a small beautiful mosque of Sinan's design in Uskurdar and walked up to Kuzguncuk, a very interesting neighborhood culturally and architecturally. She sent us on our way to an interesting restaurant back on Taksim, where two of us were staying. It was an engaging and thought-provoking tour, off the beaten tourist path, with an articulate, open-minded guide whom we all enjoyed being with.
Nikita was a wonderful guide, meeting us at The Agora and leading us through the pulsing heart of Athens and the vibrant Central Market. He has a deep well of knowledge both in Ancient Greek history and Greek (particularly Athenian) cuisine. He has a lovely and professional disposition and spent half the day introducing us to various food vendors, butchers, fish mongers, olive oil experts, soap artisans...and of course there was the BEST feta we had on our whole 2 week trip, and the richest, most luscious yogurt I've ever tasted. He then took us down into an incredible, hidden basement taverna... and the rest I'll keep as a surprise. But trust me - it's worth the price and BRING YOUR APPETITE. It was by far the best part of our 2 day Athens trip (and probably the best food we had in our entire Greece tour).
Nikitas took us on a wonderful tour of special places in the city which gave us insight to the history and explained to us traditional Greek cuisine's charm and simple delicious goodness. He has broad knowledge and an infectious appreciation for Athens and Greek food; his anecdotes from his own childhood eating adventures were great fun! I recommend this tour!
