I am a Professional River Guide transplanted from Portland Oregon by marrying a Brazilian. I moved to Sao Paulo in 2009 and have been guiding part time for Canoar Rafting at I am swift water rescue trained and certified in first aid and CPR.

If you are visiting Sao Paulo and want to get out of the city for a 1/2 day to 2 day trip I can arrange your trip or take you on 5 rivers within the state of Sao Paulo. We can select a river together that matches your level of skill, adventure, and time available. Rafting trips or inflatable kayak trips can be done year round. Canoar also offers hiking, zip lining, tree walking(arvorismo) and kayak lessons at most locations.

Enjoy your stay in Sao Paulo but consider doing a trip outside the city to broaden your experience or just take a break in the real jungle vs the concrete jungle.

Send me an email before and we can dicusss customizing your trip or setting up group pricing.

P.S. I am also starting an Inflatable Stand Up Padd... [More]

I had a great time with Troy on the Juquia River! It was my favorite part of my trip to Brazil. I started kayaking in Colorado about a year ago and I wanted to get out to paddle while I was in Sao Paulo. Troy allowed me to use his kayak while my friend, Ming, went in the raft with him. Troy added a local kayaker, Renato to our trip. Since I don't have too much river experience is was nice to see the lines Renato took and get tips from him. Renato brought his professional camera and took amazing photos during the trip. One additional raft guide, Junior, joined Troy and Ming in the raft, which was nice for added safety. That came in handy when Troy, Ming and I were surfing a wave in the raft and Ming fell out. Junior had the throw bag ready and did a great job pulling Ming back to the rocks. The Juquia river was mostly slow and peaceful which allowed plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and heavy vegetation along the riverbanks. Then there were several drop rapids. The last one was about a 2 meter drop. My biggest drop to date :) Troy did a good job planning a trip that was the right level of challenge for my skills. The logistics were also handled well. Troy picked us up from our hotel in SP and returned us at the end of the day. We stopped at a market to get lunch before heading to the river. An added bonus of the trip was a homemade dinner at Renato's family home. I'm sure this is not a usual part of rafting with Troy, but it was a special treat for us. I would definitely recommend Troy and I hope to return someday!

We had a fantastic day on the Juquia River! The tour itself is great: solid organization, safety-wise very high standard and great trip trough the jungle with some nice currents where you'd better hold on to your paddle. But what makes this great trip into a awesome day to remember is definitively the guide, Troy, who is flexible, super friendly and makes you feel at home right away. I can definitively recommend this tour and will do it again if I have the chance. Thanks again Troy!
